Helping You Choose a Garden Shredder that is right for you and your garden

The Best Electric Garden Shredders of 2024

Updating this page has been long overdue.  The truth is there has been very little innovation in the electric garden shredder world. Most changes concern much keener pricing on the better model shredders.  This is good news for anyone reading these reviews that is looking to buy a garden shredder in 2024.

Best Electric Garden Shredder 2024

Bosch AXT 25TC (Turbine Cut)

The Bosch AXT 25TC has been our shredder of the year for the last 8 years.  Not surprisingly, it retains its top position for 2024.  Its innovative, turbine cut mechanism remains unrivalled.  There is simply no other electric garden shredder that has a sufficiently versatile cutting mechanism to be able to compete.

This shredder is so good that the only viable alternative is to look at the best of the smaller petrol shredders/chippers.

Like its younger (but far more versatile sibling the AXT 25TC) the Bosch AXT Rapid has retained its position as a top recommendation in 2025.  There are cheaper alternatives but the AXT 2200 Rapid wins out for quality, durability and longevity.

  • Copes with most types of small, soft green clippings
  • Large capacity hopper for quicker feeding
  • 90kg/hr throughput
  • Lightweight – 12kg

The Ryobi holds its place against the ongoing challenge from the Bosch AXT 25D largely on price.  Both shredders provide great performance on tougher garden shredding jobs.  The Bosch is just too expensive to allow a clear sweep in all of our Electric Garden Shredder categories.

Pros

  • Cuts up to 45mm diameter with ease
  • Great for larger, tougher, woody clippings
  • Powerful self feeding mechanism
  • Copes well with a range of cuttings and clippings without jamming
  • Quiet.  93dB. It’s not the quietest machine we have reviewed but it isn’t going to upset your neighbours
  • Price.  At £282.99 from Amazon, this is great value for a highly rated, quiet shredder

Cons

  • Chippings/shreddings are quite large.  May not suit some users particularly for mulching
  • Some reviews that it will jam on soft, green waste.  This is true of every quiet shredder we have reviewed

4.3/5

Looking to Move Up To A Petrol Garden Shredder Chipper?

Shredding or chipping garden waste has stepped up during the Covid Lockdowns.  Spending more time at home tends to mean more gardening projects.  Removing,  reshaping or simple pruning creates lots of cuttings.  With social distancing it is much easier to deal with this at home.

We have seen an increasing number of people find the limitations of electric garden shredders to be too restrictive.  They want the increased power and capacity provided by petrol machines.

More in-depth reviewa are in the works. For now, we offer our guide to what to look for when buying a petrol garden shredder chipper.

Until we can get to our full shredder reviews, you might like to take a look at our round-up of some of the top petrol shredder chippers for the home gardener.

Forest Master 6HP Compact Petrol Garden Shredde

The Forest Master 6HP is a great step up from an electric shredder.  It is light weight, easy to move and handle, and copes with a wide range of garden waste.  Maximum shredding size is a small step up from Electric machines at just 50mm

Forest Master FM6DD Wood Chipper 6hp Petrol Self-Feeding, Compact & Portable - Powerful 6HP Engine (3600 RPM), Reversible Blades, Easy Storage, Chips up to 50mm (2 inches) Diameter

Zipper ZI-HAEK4100 4.1kw Petrol Chipper (5.5HP)

The Zipper ZI-HAEK4100 is an extraordinary machine.  It is only rated a little less powerful than the Forest Master, but it is able to cope with much larger maximum size branches.  It is styled like much bigger, professional machines.

The only real negative is the noise level.  At 115dB, you really will need ear protection.

About Our Garden Shredder Reviews

Bosch have featured strongly on this web site for many years.  That was never deliberate.  It is just that in our reviews the Bosch machines provide the most innovative and all encompassing range of electric garden shredders on sale in the uk today.

In 2020, for the first time since we started providing ‘Best Garden Shredder Reviews’, Bosch did not occupy all three top spots. For 2022 Bosch retain 2 out our 3 top shredder ratings.  Competition is fierce in the quiet Garden Shredder market with several models able to displace Bosch.

The Tacklife PWS01A (now LSRL) is an excellent quiet shredder that 2021 easily ousted the Bosch AXT25D from its long held position at the top of this category. For 2022 the Ryobi RSH3045U 3000W Silent shredder replaces the LSRL at the top.

Tacklife, Handy, and Dirty Pro Tools are also providing extremely strong competition in the highly competitive impact shredder market.

With other manufacturers are now providing better machines we can expect to see Bosch acting to up their game again.  The competition is sure to drive innovation in this garden shredder sector.
